A Breakdown of our Trustwave SSL Certificate range
Posted Wednesday December 6th 2017 / Category Security

Please select the type of SSL Certificate you would like more information on:

Easy-Trust (DV) SSL
Premium (OV) SSL
Wildcard (OV) SSL
Premium (EV) SSL

—————————————————————————

Easy-Trust DV SSL:
Can be issued as quickly as 15 minutes on average.

These certificates go through the most basic level of owner verification known as Domain Validation where you need to either set up a specific email address to receive a confirmation on, create a DNS record or display certain information on your domain contact information.

These types of SSL Certificate cover only ONE domain (including the “www.” version)

More on the DV validation process can be found here.

—————————————————————————

Premium OV SSL:
Can be issued within 1 – 3 Business days on average.

After completing a Domain Validation you will be contacted by Trustwave on your provided phone number when configuring the Certificate. They will go over some details they need for the validation process and request any supporting documentation they need to complete this to be submitted via email.

These types of SSL Certificate cover up to FIVE domains, this includes the “www.” version automatically.
(To successfully configure one of these for more than one domain you must provide your own CSR containing up to 5 desired domains during configuration)

More on the OV validation process can be found here.

—————————————————————————

WildCard OV SSL:
Can be issued within 1 – 3 Business days on average.

Much like the Premium OV SSL these go through a DV process followed by phone verification where you will be asked for information about your business and asked to provide any supporting documentation via email to Trustwave.

These types of SSL Certificate cover ONE domain with a wildcard (Ie: *.mydomain.com).
This means you could have 5+ subdomains such as:

Shop.mydomain.com
Blog.mydomain.com
Support.mydomain.com
Staff.mydomain.com
Billing.mydomain.com

And ALL of these would be covered by the single WildCard SSL Certificate. Including just “mydomain.com”.

Then if you decide to add 5 more subdomains later down the track you can use the exact same SSL without any changes so long as it’s still valid.

This becomes a more cost effective option once you have 4+ subdomains which require an SSL Certificate.

More on the OV validation process can be found here.

—————————————————————————

Premium EV SSL:
Can be issued within 2 – 5 Business days on average.

This type of validation is by no means quick or easy, It will follow through a Domain Validation following by a much more detailed Organization Validation that will include further documents to be provided. The reward however is that extra green bar that appears on your visitors browsers re-assuring them they are securely dealing with the correct business for the site they have visited.

These types of SSL Certificate cover only ONE domain (including the “www.” version)

More on the EV validation process can be found here.
