Adding password protection to files and folders
It is possible to add password protection to your web directories/folders, making it easy to lock things down whilst in development or when keeping pages away from the general public. Using password protection will set a username and password prompt for accessing a particular directory in web browsers. It sets up a htpasswd configuration.
- Log in to your cPanel service.
- Click the Directory Privacy under Files.
- Click Edit next to the folder you want to password protect (click on a folder to select a sub-folder to password protect)
- Check the “Password protect this directory.” checkbox on
- Optionally change the name of the protected directory to something you prefer over the default
- Click Save
- Click Go Back
- Under Create User, input a Username and Password for the protected directory
- Click Save
