Cloudflare is a CDN (Content Delivery Network) that you can use to help speed up your website’s load times. Your website will be served to visitors by a web server that your website is stored on under normal circumstances.
Cloudflare has many servers worldwide that store a copy of your website, and the website visitor receives a copy of your website from the closest server to them. This helps speed up website load times. Cloudflare also implements several other features that help keep your website safe from various kinds of attacks.
Cloudflare is great if you’re expecting a lot of international web traffic; however, there are some reasons why it is no longer a good idea to use Cloudflare if most (if not all) of your traffic is coming from within Australia. We have a separate article explaining the reasons behind this.
Why Cloudflare is no longer useful for websites that receive lots of local Australian traffic
Cloudflare is a great CDN (Content Delivery Network) used by millions of people around the world; however, if it may not be a good idea to use it if the majority of the traffic to your website is coming from within Australia because that traffic will be routed via Singapore now, instead of an Australian based server.
The reason behind this is due to some disagreements relating to the high cost of bandwidth in Australia; you can read more about this on CloudFlare’s website.
