Why am I receiving a ‘503 Service Unavailable’ error?
Updated Tuesday April 4th 2017 / Category Troubleshooting

The cause of a ‘503 Service Unavailable’ error is typically high resource consumption by your web hosting service, or more directly a script inside it.

You can determine the cause through a range of methods:

  • Check Resource Usage within cPanel to determine if you’re hitting your CloudLinux limits.
  • Check AWStats within cPanel to see if there is an unusual traffic hitting your website; particularly foreign IP’s maliciously targeting you.
  • If you have customised your PHP environment, ensure you haven’t set memory_limit too high.
  • Disable any unnecessary scripts and plugins.

If you are unable to determine the cause, you may need to get in touch with our Technical Support team via eTicket.
