What happens if I have a cancelled Sole Trader or Partnership ABN on my Domain?
Why am I receiving these emails?
You may have received an email from us saying that your domain name is not eligible. This can be because the ABN associated with the domain name is invalid or cancelled. These cases generally arise if you move to a new ABN/ACN but do not update the Domain Name as well.
With guidance from auDA we have implemented a change to improve the eligibility validation process, aiming to reduce eligibility complaints and the subsequent potential loss of invalid .au domains.
If a domain name does not meet the necessary eligibility criteria (such as an active ABN or ACN) after an inbound transfer or renewal, we will send out an email to the registrant notifying them to do a Manual Change of Registrant to move to a valid and eligible registrant within 30 days to prevent suspension.
How can I resolve this?
To resolve this, there are two options:
Option one: Re-Activate your ABN
- If you haven’t moved entities or to another company, you are able to re-activate your ABN, You can refer to this page here.
- Once reactivated, no further action is required.
Option two: Perform a Change of Registrant
- If you have moved to another entity and are no longer trading under the partnership or Sole Trader ABN, you can perform a Change of Registrant
- There’s no specific documentation that we need, You are free to initiate the change of registrant through VIPcontrol, you can use this guide here to help you do this here
If you would like us to initiate the Change of Registrant for you, feel free to reply to the email that you have received by us or send an email to policy@ventraip.com.au.
As long as we see the Sole Trader or at least one member of the Partnership is the one requesting the COR be completed or provide the government-issued ID (e.g. drivers license, passport) of the Sole Trader or member of the partnership, we accept this as proof that the Sole Trader or member of a Partnership is actually requesting the COR take place.
