Writing a Google Business Profile Description
This article will go over how to write a Google Business Profile description and how to save it with rippaMarketing.
Introduction to Google Business description
A Google Business Profile description is a brief summary of your business that appears on your Google Business Profile listing. This description provides potential customers with an overview of what your business offers, its unique features, and why they should choose your services or products over your competitors.
It’s an important element for SEO as it helps improve your business’s visibility in local search results.
Your Google Business Profile description should start with a concise explanation of what your business does and the products or services it offers.
Adding a description within rippaMarketing
To add in a description, login to rippaMarketing and navigate to ‘Online Presence’ → ‘Business Profile’ From there click on the the pencil icon next to the Brief description or the Detailed Description heading.
You will be asked to add either a short and long description.
- Short Description: This is to give a quick overview of what your business is about in general, usually a sentence or two.
- Detailed Description:This should provide more in-depth information about your business.
After you add your descriptions, click on the ‘Save’ button.
Considerations when writing a description
Below are a few tips to get you pointed in the right direction when writing a description.
Be upfront and honest
The information that you are providing should be upfront and honest about the products and services that you are offering. Focus on content that’s relevant and useful to your customers to understand your business. This can also be a good place to put your businesses mission or goals.
Use natural language & put your goal first
When writing your description, try to use local, and natural and language instead of using keyword heavy descriptions and ensure that you put your goal or objective first.
For example: “Gold Coast’s most trusted electricians. Providing reliable and quality electrical services around the clock for more than 20 years.”
This will then promote your business in a humanising and genuine way naturally.
Your business description should naturally mention your services and service areas which will help you appear in the “Near me” searches.
What not to do
- Do not display incorrect, irrelevant or distracting content. For example, misspellings, gimmicky character use (heavy emoji use), jargon, etc.
- Do not promote sales, or special offers. A description is for describing how your business is unique and not displaying sales or promotions. Use posts for sales or promos instead.
- Don’t include links. Google does not allow you to add links into your descriptions.
- Avoid having any restricted content. For more information, see Googles Prohibited & restricted content page.
Templates
If you are stuck with how to write a description, we have a couple of templates which you can use to help structure your description:
- “[Business Name] is a [Business category/type] servicing the [City/Suburb] area.”
- “We specialise in [Service #1] and [Service #2], focusing on [Unique value]“
- “Whether you need [X problem solved] or [Product], our fully local team is here to help you. [Benefit or solution for customer]“
