Blocking visitors by IP address

In some instances, you may find that you want to block certain users or IP’s from reaching your website for reasons such as posting of spam, bots hitting your website repeatedly, etc.

Adding an IP block

If you know their IP address you can block them through cPanel. To block an IP from reaching your website, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel service.
  2. Click on the IP Blocker icon under the Security header.
  3. Enter the IP address or range and click Add.
  4. Repeat as required for additional IP addresses/ranges.

Finding IPs that are repeatedly hitting your website

  1. Log in to your cPanel service.
  2. Click on the Awstats icon under the Metrics header.
  3. Click the view icon next to the domain investigating for.
    • It’s best to check both versions of your domain – SSL and non-SSL.
  4. Click Full list under the Hosts header on the left side of this page.
  5. Use the Reported period filters at the top to view your traffic reports for each month.
  6. Don’t recognise an IP address that’s hitting your pages? Add it to your IP block per the above instructions.
