How can I find the email headers for an email?
Updated Monday September 14th 2020 / Category Email

From time to time our team may need email headers when troubleshooting email issues. This guide will point you in the right direction to find those headers!

Just be aware that this process differs between email software and is provided as-is. Updates to your email software may change the way stuff is laid out and it may not reflect your exact email software.

Outlook is possibly the easiest mail software to find email headers in because Microsoft has it all documented here!
Most if not all version of Outlook can use the guide by Microsoft, any version not mentioned in that guide may have a different way to do it but the underlying basics will all be the same.

Thunderbird is fairly easy to find email headers in. Open the message in the reading pane, in a new tab or in a new window.
Select View >> Headers >> All from the menu. Click the menu button first if you see no menu bar.

In your Inbox (or other folder), right-click or Control-click the message, and then select View Source.
