Completing an AU domain Change of Registrant (CoR)

A Change of Registrant (CoR) is required to change the legal owner of an AU domain name, that is, the ABN/ACN/RBN/other eligibility type listed on the domain’s WHOIS information. Customers can initiate a Change of Registrant (CoR) through VIPcontrol regardless of the domain’s current ABN status.

Initiating the CoR Process

1. Log in to VIPcontrol.
2. Click the My Services option at the top of the page > Domain Names from the tabs below.
3. Click the Manage button for the domain name that you wish to initiate the COR for.
4. Select the Change of Registrant option under Admin on the left-hand side > Initiate Change of Registrant button.
5. After payment on the invoice is made, the CoR process begins.

What happens now?

For Sole Traders and Partnerships

From here, an email will be sent to the current Registrant contact to approve the CoR process. Once that form is completed, the new Registrant will receive an email to enter their details. Once this has been done, the new details will be verified as eligible to hold the Domain Name License, and the CoR will be completed.

For cancelled Companies and Trusts

In cases where the current Registrant is linked to a cancelled Trust or Company ABN/ACN, supporting documentation will be required. These must be submitted through the online forms after the CoR has been initiated. At least one of the following is required:

Sales Agreement

• A copy of a sales agreement that shows the business was sold or changed hands.
• The agreement must clearly show that the current company/entity was acquired by the proposed company/entity.

Signed Letter on Company Letterhead

• A letter signed on company letterhead stating that the domain name has changed hands.
• If you choose to provide a letter, it must explicitly state the full domain name being transferred from one business to another.

Statutory Declaration

• A Statutory Declaration outlining who the domain should be transferred to and the desired outcome, signed by a Justice of the Peace or an authorised witness.

Other Valid Documentation

• Any valid document that shows the domain name or business has changed hands.

Note: While only one of the above is required to proceed, we recommend providing as much information as possible to minimise any need for our team to request more information.

Where there is a gap between the currently listed company ABN’s cancellation date and the proposed new ABN’s active from date, the registrant must fill in a section noting the ABN/ACN of the commercial entity that held the domain during this time.

Important Information

• Once the CoR process is complete, if there are a whole number of years (1 year, 11 months = 1 year) left on the existing term of the Domain Name, then those years will be passed on to the new Registrant. This means that the expiry date will be changed to 1 year from date the CoR is completed plus any whole years that were remaining.
• There is a fee for the CoR process, which is equal to 1 year of registration/renewal.
• If the existing ABN/ACN/RBN associated with the domain name is no longer valid or cancelled (and the ABN is not a Sole Trader), we will need further information from you in order to be able to initiate the CoR process. In which case, VIPcontrol will request this required information from you when you are initiating the CoR Process.
