Accessing your Self Managed VPS using VNC

What is Virtual Network Computing? (VNC)

VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing, this is essentially a desktop sharing system that allows you to attach a virtual monitor and control your server as if you are directly in front of it.

When running a Self Managed VPS with VentraIP, you may find yourself needing to use VNC to access your server’s terminal. Generally speaking, this would be due to certain situations where traditional access to your server is not working.

This might be due to your server experiencing a kernel panic; issues successfully booting, SSH is down, or the operating system can’t quickly or easily recover. VNC access will give you direct control of your server remotely, allowing you to troubleshoot the error and or reboot the server if required.

Accessing Self Managed VPS’s using VNC

To access VNC, you will need to be logged into your VIPcontrol account. Once logged in, please follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to My Services > VPS on the top.
  2. Click on Manage next to your VPS on the right.
  3. Under Manage on the left, click on VNC Login > Access VNC
  4. This will open a new window with the VNC console for your server. You may be prompted to allow pop-ups if you have a pop-up blocker enabled in your browser.

From there, you can log in using your server’s username and password and interact with your server.

Note: VNC Access is only available on Self Managed VPS services.
