What is PCI DSS compliance?
Updated Friday August 20th 2021 / Category Web Hosting

PCI DSS is a set of web security standards and requirements that are intended to ensure that any data that is transmitted or stored is done so in a secure environment.

As time goes on, more and more services are processing and storing information digitally. Which is why standards like PCI DSS are becoming ever more necessary.

You can learn more about PCI DSS compliance on their website.

How does PCI DSS compliance relate to SSL/TLS?

Part of being PCI compliant is ensuring that only certain versions of TLS are available to use, because SSL and TLS 1.0/1.1 are now considered to be insecure.

The security standards stipulate that only TLS 1.2 and 1.3 can be used, because they are the only encryption protocols that are considered secure.

Why is it so important?

Unfortunately, cyber criminals are out there and are constantly launching attacks on businesses and computer networks/systems. The security standards that PCI DSS compliance implements helps avoid security breaches, because it makes it much harder for a malicious person to break into a computer network or system.
