Enabling AutoSSL on your web hosting service

What is AutoSSL?

AutoSSL is a feature built into cPanel, available on any of our web hosting services. You will be automatically given an SSL certificate within an hour of your service becoming active – so long as your domain is live and pointing at our servers for the validation process.

These SSL Certificates are issued from cPanel via the vendor Comodo and are a basic Domain Validated (DV) type SSL Certificate. cPanel will issue one of these certificates for every domain and sub-domain that is actively hosted on your service. These certificates also renew automatically on a 90-day cycle.

If you are using your own SSL or use one of our paid Comodo certificates, these will not be overwritten by AutoSSL and you will need to remove any externally obtained certificates like these from cPanel before you can successfully run AutoSSL.

To learn more, check out our blog post or support centre articles about SSL certificates.

How do I enable AutoSSL?

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Click on SSL/TLS Status under Security.
  3. Click Run AutoSSL.

The process will take 1-5 minutes before producing a result.

When AutoSSL fails

If there is an existing SSL Certificate installed, you may need to follow these steps to remove it, then run AutoSSL.

If there is no existing certificate installed, you will then need to check your DNS.

Ensuring the website loads securely ( https)

The SSL certificate allows your website to load securely over https, if your site is loading as insecure after enabling AutoSSL you will need to create a redirect.

To create a redirect you may need to follow these steps.
