Migrate Emails to Microsoft 365
This guide is for migrating emails to VentraIP Microsoft 365 services.
Before you start
To migrate your emails, you’ll need the following details for each mailbox you’d like to migrate:
- Email address(es): The email account or accounts that you’re migrating from.
- IMAP Password: The associated password(s) for the email account(s).
- IMAP server or Hostname: The IMAP server of your existing service.
What can be migrated?
We can migrate emails from most IMAP-compatible email services, including cPanel email, VentraIP’s Business email hosting, and other standard email providers.
What can’t be migrated?
- Google Workspace: Due to restrictions on Google’s end, migrations from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 are not possible by us, you would have to consider doing this yourself.
- Microsoft 365 to Microsoft 365: If you’re migrating your Microsoft 365 service from another provider to a Microsoft 365 service with us, this requires a Tenant transfer instead of a migration. See Transferring an Existing Microsoft 365 Tenant to VentraIP.
- Calendars, contacts or tasks.
- Emails stored only on your computer but not on the server.
How to request a migration
Unlike our Business Email Hosting or cPanel migrations, Microsoft 365 migrations don’t yet have an automated booking system. To request a migration, please submit an eTicket with the following information:
- The email addresses you’d like to migrate
- The associated passwords for each email account
- The IMAP server hostname
Once all the information is provided and submitted to us via an eTicket, we will request GDAP access so we can perform the migration on your behalf.
GDAP Access
To perform the migration, we need delegated admin access (GDAP) to your Microsoft 365 tenant. If this is already established (for example, if our team assisted with your initial setup), we can proceed straight away.
If GDAP isn’t set up yet , we’ll send you two approval links via your eTicket:
- First link: Grands us GDAP access to your tenant.
- Second link: Grants us the admin permissions needed to perform the migration.
You’ll need to login as the Global administrator user, and open and approve both links before we can proceed.
Once approved, we will begin the migration and let you know once it’s all done!
Note: Microsoft 365 email migrations can take longer than standard email migrations. We’ll keep you updated on progress via your eTicket.
